How does Dennis invest his money?

Post by Dennis Ng »

A common question people ask me is How do I invest my money?

I believe in Diversification, ie. not putting all my eggs in one basket.

Most people say they understand they should not put all their eggs in one basket.

However, most Singaporeans have all their money and assets, including investments, in S$ only. Isn't S$ one basket?

S$ is one basket (a single currency). This basket is pegged to a few baskets (different currencies).

Japanese used to think they are almighty in the 80s. Japanese learned the lesson the hard way.

I cannot predict the future. I just try to put my money into different baskets to diversify.

Most people think that diversification means buying different unit trusts that invest into different geographical regions. Eg. Buy US Fund, Buy Europe Equity Fund, Buy Asia Fund etc, etc.

Other than just having all investments into Equities (stocks), I personally also diversify into different Asset Classes.

My current asset allocation is as follows:

1. Cash 46%.
2. Stocks 20%

The rest are in alternative investments (NOT affected by stock market volatility).

3. 12% in UK Traded Endowment www.TradedEndowment.com
4. 10% in Land Banking (both Canadian and U.S. Land
5. 7% in Gold/Silver
6. 5% in French Fine Wine
Cheers!
