The Joy of Investors vs the Stress of Traders

Post by Dennis Ng »

Breadtalk's share price has been relatively stable despite the recent market correction. Price is about 68 cents, almost unchanged from 1 month ago.

On the other hand, "hot stocks" such as Genting Singapore has dropped by over 21% from about S$1.20 to about S$0.94.

Recently, I went to a new "Food Republic" outlet at 313 Orchard. I find the place very nicely decorated with good use of space. When my family had our dinner there, I was smiling to myself, becos the dinner is actually "free", since the cost price of my investment into Breadtalk is 44 cents, while the current share price is 68 cents, or about 55% higher.

A new Toastbox outlet at United Square is also doing a Roaring Business. I noticed that the business of Yakun outlet in United Square seems to be affected after Toastbox opened about 2 months back.

The feeling is really good. It is like nowadays when I orderd Pokka Green Tea, the feeling is pretty good, becos I made 150% returns on Pokka when I invested at 30 cents and the parent company delisted the company at 75 ccents less than 3 years after I bought....

These are the Joys of a Stock Investor.

Alot of people make the mistake of thinking too "short term" and too impatient. I really don't understand what is the problem of waiting 2 to 5 years to reap 50% or 100% returns?

On the other hand, many people spend alot of time trading the market, making 10% gains or 10% losses, and had to do alot of work to even make any significant returns. While as an investor, I do not need to constantly monitor the market, do comparatively less work than Traders and can sit back, relax and make 50% to over 200% returns. That is how I made my first million dollars, by investing.

P.S. I checked out Orchard Central vs 313 Orchard. (next to each other) 313 is better designed with good use of space and very crowded with human traffic. Orchard Central on the other hand is poorly designed and have very few shoppers. Kudos to George Quek and his brother Frankie Quek (Group General Manager of Breadtalk) for choosing the Right Shopping Centre to locate their Food Court.
Cheers!
