US Broker and trading systems

Post by tjcher »

Hi,

I would like to seek some opinions with regards to which US broker and trading systems is popular with you guys. The common ones are E*trade, OptionsXpress, thinkorswim, Scottrade and most of these charge a comission of about 7USD - 15USD per trade.

Last night however, I found out that some day traders make use of this broker called Lightspeed which charges a comission of USD$0.40 per 100 shares transacted. I feel this is good if we want to purchase shares in small quantities and will still be able to make a small profit without allowing the comissions to negate it.

Also some of the above mentioned brokers make use of a web based trading system which does not provide lvl 2 direct access quotes which may/ may not be a disadvantage to some. From what I know, Lightspeed is able to offer lvl2 direct access quotes.

Just want to know if anyone knows if this broker is reliable and worth making the switch to. I currently use optionsXpress which charges a whopping 14.95 USD / transaction.

Thanks
T J

I don't really trade U.S. stocks, so unable to offer any useful comments.

Currently, I own some CITIGROUP shares and Bank of America shares, I bought them through Poems under Philip Capital....the brokerage I think is higher, but as I said, I don't really trade in U.S. stocks so didn't bother to open a separate account for these 2 transactions.
Cheers!

My advice is to get a MAS regulated broker. For these regulated brokers, they are required to keep your capital in a third party trustee account. In the event that the brokerage firm becomes insolvent, the debtors will not be able to touch your money.
