Hi Dennis and team
This is something to share with everyone on long term mega trend in IT.
http://www.fool.com/fool/free-report/15 ... eml0000839
Essentially, they wanted us to buy a report on certain company that they researched which could generate huge return . This is common in IT where Google suddenly put down yahoo and AOL. Would like to hear whether all of you feel it is a scam or something worth investigation further.
The above could be the reason why Singapore is position itself as the Data center for Asia Pacific and wire up the whole island using fibre optics. I was just thinking they wouldn't be spending so much money on infrastructure just to serve local consumption.

Andrew
Is this a scam or not ?

this is why internet marketing is so powerful, and has high impact if you optimize and utilize it fully.
Microsoft themselves are also moving into the cloud, and claim to have their own cloud products and services.
Similarly, if you use Google email, calendar, docs etc. you are actually using the cloud computing service of google. they make their money from advertising, providing products and services for free or small nominal sum.
There are 10s of companies into cloud computing, as it is the current hot wave in IT.
Actually the current in thing in IT (or IT trend) is virtualization and cloud computing.
in spore, the govt paid billions to normalize and streamline the entire civil service system and services, which is using cloud computing. That's where the SOE and SOE2 money is paid. NCS, SCS is simply using google, and all the other cloud computing companies to put together the services that the govt is paying for.
IT is always a double edge sword. what is hot today maybe obsolete tomorrow.
eg Nokia dominate the mobile phone for the good part of 1990s and early/mid 2000s. today apple is the hot mobile device. can the iphone and ipad survive for long? you decide....
in 5-10 yrs it might be ABC company who is hot, and we may be using some converged device, which consist of mobile, computing, tv, payment etc all-in-one.
nothing is long term in IT. just ride the wave and use it as IT is an enabler, it is always the slave, never the master.

Thanks wintrade for sharing your perspective. It is really easy to fall into the marketing trap if one is not disciplined and rational enough.
IT technology company is always like a wild beast that can give huge return or goes bankrupt the next moment.
Until now, i am still not sure what thinking process those rational investor from US use to study and pick the right company and manage to get huge return just like those early investor of Google and Apple.

it is very critical to understand the business model.AndrewNg wrote:Thanks wintrade for sharing your perspective. It is really easy to fall into the marketing trap if one is not disciplined and rational enough.

Just like Warren Buffett says, u invest in what u understand, not something people say. u need to do your own homework and judge for yourself.
Warren Buffett never invest in technology firm simply becos he doesn't understand their business.
google makes it becos they r the leader in internet search advertising.
facebook is trying to replicate it through social network advertising.
yahoo is neither here nor there, they may go the dinosaur route if they don't come up with something.
apple have steve job to thank for, since he revolutionize the firm and they came out with sleek, highly attractive, and good design computers, macbook, gadgets like ipod, and now the mobile space, iphone.
the appeal of the products, good reviews, user friendly and not so buggy OS helps a lot.
Actually there is many things going on in IT with cloud computing and virtualization, high speed computing etc. I think it is impossible even for a IT professional like myself to truly fully understand everything.
I think keeping in bigger picture is 1) If it is so good, why will they share with us and what benefits will they get 2) normally if it is too good to be true, it normally is. (read as scam). I think doing our own homework is in order regardless.
Remember the dot com bubble!
