Hyflux is offering S$200m 6% non convertible, non-voting, cumulative preference share, with a step-up dividend rate of 8%.
Is it compulsory for Hyflux to pay dividend each year as well as 6% interest?
Can anyone advise whether it is worthwhile investing?
Thank you.

Hi Serene,
U can get quality s'pore equities with 6 % yield plus capital gains.
Unless the investment is purely for some diversification, its all right
to invest some funds into it.
Cumulative preference share is compulsory to pay dividend.
If example, dont pay in 2011, have to pay what they did not
pay in 2011 plus also 2012. Hope this clarifies.
Therefore it really depends whether u want to invest after you
consider your own personal financial position

It is useful for investment diversification but the risk is higher than bank (%return is also higher).
