Just finished reading this book entitled "Rock Solid - The Corporate Career of Tan Sri Dr Tan Chin Tuan".
Looks like investing can be simple. Imagine a person just invest in any company that Tan Chin Tuan ever led would be very rich by now. Wow, his records are very impressive, in my opinion, he is the Warren Buffett of Singapore.
Eg:
1. invested $1,306 in OCBC (1,000 shares) back in 1947, by 1983 when Tan retired as chairman, investment value grown to $476,554.
2. invested $5,200 in Robinsons (1,000 shares) back in 1951, by 1983 when Tan retired, investment value grown to $177,914.
3. invested $3,100 in F & N (1,000 shares) back in 1950, by 1983, value grown to $192,548.
4. invested $2,850 in Great Eastern Life (1,000 shares) back in 1962, by 1983, value grown to $499,646.
5. invested $2,013 in Robinsons (1,000 shares) back in 1950, by 1983, value grown to $94,883.
6. invested $24,650 in Straits Trading Company (1,000 shares) back in 1954, by 1983, value grown to $2,157,897.
7. Invested $1,380 in WBL (1,000 shares) in 1967, by 1983, value grown to $12,532.
Too bad. I only read about him now. He passed away in year 2005....who can be a 2nd Tan Sri Dr Tan Chin Tuan? After reading the book, I'm impressed not only with his corporate record but also greatly admire his character and qualities....
