Dollar & Sense is MediaCorp's very own brainchild and also Asia's first investment game show. Hosted by Bryan Wong, the show takes on a quiz cum board game format and introduces various financial concepts and knowledge through an interesting and entertaining game. Each episode will be thematic and there are three themes altogether - property, foreign exchange and equity.
1) Segment 1 ? Intro to Initial Capital and Assets
Four contestants will each receive an initial capital. Four assets (for example: a three-room HDB flat, a five-room HDB flat, a condominium unit and a semi-detached house) will be featured in each episode for purchase and sale in the game.
2) Segment 2 ? Round 1
Question & Answer
There will be a total of three rounds in the game. Before each round starts, one question will be asked and has to be answered within 30 seconds. The points awarded for correct answers will be converted to an intermediate income (to a maximum of $300,000). The faster they answer the question, the more income they earn. For every second wasted, the ?income? will be reduced by $10,000 (i.e. if one contestant answers at 25 sec, he will get $250,000). The answers will be explained by a financial expert.
Purchase of Assets
After the questions, each contestant will be given a chance to buy or sell assets at the market price.
Scenario Moves
After buying the assets, the contestants will move into the scenario game board. There are altogether five scenarios (Macro, Micro, Windfall, Chance and Bankrupt) representing the market situation that they will face. Every scenario will affect the value of their assets or cash.
The contestant will activate a digital dice to move on the game board. When a contestant hits a Micro, it will affect his/her assets only. When a contestant hits a Macro, it will affect everyone?s assets. When a contestant hits Windfall, s/he will earn extra income. When a contestant hits Chance, s/he has to decide whether or not to accept the special offer given to him/her. When a contestant hits a Bankrupt, the value of his/her assets will be nullified but s/he will still be able to continue with the game.
3) Segment 3 & 4 - Round 2 & 3
Similar to Round 1. At the end of Round 3, the contestant with the highest asset value will be the winner and will receive S$1000 cash prize. S/he will proceed on to the Bonus Round.
4) Segment 5 - Bonus Round
The winner will have to answer five bonus questions in this round. For every question s/he answers correctly, s/he will get a maximum of 1000 points. Each question must be answered within 10 seconds. The faster s/he answers, the more s/he gets (i.e. if s/he answers at 8 sec, s/he will get 800 points).
The contestant will then spin the currency wheel to determine the currency s/he will receive (i.e. if he hits a Euro, he will get 800 Euro which is about S$2400). The final amount he gets will be his/her ultimate cash prize!
